Cool vs Cruel Local Winner!!!

My jumper for The Humane Society's Cool vs Cruel competition has been chosen as the local winner! Out of each Art Institute only one entry was chosen to be submitted to The Humane Society. So for the The Art Institute of Orange County, that would be me! There were about 10 contestants in my class, but mine was chosen! So my jumper was sent to New York and was judged October 23rd, but unfortunately the winner will not be notified until October 26th. However, I do know that so far I've made top 15! Of course I will let everyone know when I hear anything.

The first place winner gets a trip to New York where there will be a huge event for The Humane Society featuring the wining garment. And they will also win a 5 day internship in New York with a designer! Second place gets 400 dollars and third place gets 600 dollars.

For the competition, I wanted to do something unique for evening wear, instead of doing just another dress. My jumper is a sleek and new way to do evening wear. It has a fake fur trim along the neck and low back , with another strip of fur that lays loose against the back. I wanted to do something new and innovative with the fur that I've never seen before. I also wanted my jumper to be reminiscent of a tuxedo, which is why i chose the black and cream color palate, the button down front and the belt, which is actually made of organza and ties in a bow in the back to make it more feminine. I worked really hard on it and I hope the hard work pays off!

In the mean time....
The fashion blogger " Style Binge" for the Orange County Register wants to do an interview with me on Monday! I will upload the link when it appears online

C'est Jolie

So I recently did this group project where we created a clothing line called C'est Jolie (meaning "it's pretty" in french), and I made this romper for it. We did a photo shoot, with a model wearing the romper and two other looks. The romper is her morning look, at the park, walking her dog with a donut in hand. The pink skirt is her afternoon look, at the mall during a break from work. The the last look is her on a date at night.

Draping, Measuring, Cutting, Sewing....

Working, working, working. Summer quarter is coming to an end and there are so many projects to complete. Still working on the jumpsuit for the Humane Society. it should be done within the next two weeks though, and then i can post the sketch and the finished product. Im also working on a dress for my neighbor. She sings and performs with a group for special events, and she needs a sexy, yet classy dress that she can dance in.... among other projects too. So much to do, so little time.

My collection... and the inspiration

These are some of the illustrations that I designed for this small collection not too long ago. I wanted to do a circus inspired theme with a Tim Burton kind of twist to make it more dark and edgy. Each look plays a different character: some are dancers, acrobats, clowns, and conductors, done with a fashion twist

Cool vs Cruel: Now and Then

For the cool vs cruel competition this year, I've decided to create a jumpsuit for evening wear. It's going to be low cut in the back with strips of fake fur draped like a necklace in the back. I also want it to kind of look like a tuxedo, so its going to be button down in the front and have a tuxedo stripe down the side.

This a picture of the evening dress that I made last year, when I made a backless, navy, floor length dress.

Rylie's fashion sense

Typically I'm a woman's wear designer; however on occasion i have branched out, including to create a few outfits for my puppy, Rylie. She lets me dress her up in pretty much anything, and looks adorable in everything she tries on- i wish i could say the same for myself.
this is my favorite outfit of hers...

Cool vs. Cruel

Right now our patterning class is working on on a competition for the Humane Society. We have to redesign either a suit, jacket or evening dress based on one of four given looks.
We cannot use any fabric thats made from any part of an animal, and we have to use fake fur.

Our designs must be based on one of these four looks by Thakoon; Burberry Prorsum; Alexander McQueen; and Michael Kors

Fashion Illustration

It is my fifth quarter at AI
